British Prime Minister Tony Blair is today battling for support at home and abroad for his hardline stance against Iraq after International Development Secretary Clare Short threatened to resign.

Ms Short said she would step down from the Cabinet if Blair took Britain into a war against Saddam Hussein’s regime without UN backing.
