Sri Lankan authorities clash with Tamil Tigers

The Sri Lankan navy today claimed to have destroyed a suspected Tamil Tiger rebel boat in a fierce clash off the island’s north coast.

A navy boat with about 100 sailors on board signalled for the vessel to stop, but as they approached the suspected rebels opened fire, one navy officer said.
