President Jacques Chirac is lobbying other heads of state to convene an emergency summit of UN Security Council members in search of a compromise on Iraq, his office said today.

The Elysee presidential palace also reiterated France’s objection to a US-British draft resolution giving Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein a March 17 ultimatum to prove he has given up weapons of mass destruction.
