Man arrested at Gatwick Airport

A man was arrested under the Prevention of Terrorism Act at Gatwick Airport, police said today.

Part of the north terminal was closed in the alert.

A police spokesman said: “We are currently dealing with a security alert at Gatwick.

“A man has been arrested and part of the north terminal has been closed.

“Inbound flights are not affected but there is some disruption to outbound flights.”

Aer Lingus says the security alert at Gatwick airport has not caused major disruption to it's flights.

Aer Lingus, which normally uses the North Terminal, says passengers are now being processed through the South Terminal and planes are landing and taking off as usual.

However the company says some delays are expected during the afternoon. Meanwhile Ryanair says its flights, which operate from the South Terminal, are not affected.
