Brothers held over drugs haul
Two Irish brothers were arrested in France after police found drugs with an estimated street value of €11m, it emerged tonight.
Roger and Michael Bergin, from Co Longford, were detained by French police more than 10 days ago in connection with the haul.
Cannabis worth an estimated €10m and cocaine worth an estimated €1m was seized by officers.
The Irish Embassy in Paris has been providing them with assistance since their arrest, a spokesman for the Republic’s department of foreign affairs confirmed.
The men - with addresses in Longford town and Lanesborough - were being held in custody in Perpignan.
They were waiting to hear whether charges would be brought against them by the French authorities.
