Libyan elected to head UN human rights commission

The UN Human Rights Commission today elected a Libyan diplomat as this year’s president, despite objections from the US and other Western countries.

Opponents of Najat Al-Hajjaji’s selection pointed to her country’s poor record on civil liberties and its alleged role in sponsoring terrorism.
