Zimbabwe's opposition deny Mugabe exit plan

Zimbabwe's opposition is split over plans to give embattled President Robert Mugabe a dignified exit after 23 years in power.

Movement for Democratic Change leader Morgan Tsvangirai has backed the deal, under which a power-sharing government would take over if and when Mugabe resigned.

But a senior MDC official said all talks with the ruling Zanu-PF party were off, and that it had no part in the reported plans.

"No further such negotiations can ever take place" without the MDC leadership's approval, Information Secretary Paul Nyathi said.
