Hundreds die in Asian cold spell

Almost 1000 people have died across northern India, Nepal and Bangladesh during a month-long cold spell, officials said today.

Bangladesh, where at least 50 mostly elderly women and children died yesterday, has been hardest hit with 590 people dead from the cold since early December.
