Defence deny cosmetics heir is serial date-rapist

Lawyers for the Max Factor heir accused of being a serial date-rapist showed jurors a giant photograph of one of his alleged victims, sitting smiling before what the lawyers claim was consensual sex.

Prosecutors concede the 21-year-old and her friend had sex in the back of Andrew Luster’s car on the way to his California beach house, but say the 39-year-old had drugged them.

Luster, the great grandson of movie make-up mogul Max Factor, faces life in prison after being charged with 87 counts, including rape, sexual battery and poisoning.

His lawyers claim the women consented to sex with him and Luster was making porn movies when he filmed them.

But a toxicologist told jurors the two women seen in the videos with Luster appeared to be in drug-induced comas.

Toxicology professor Jo Dyer told the court in Ventura the 21-year-old and her friend were probably under the influence of gamma hydroxybutyrate, or GHB.

GHB is a potent, clear and odourless liquid that can be easily slipped into a woman’s drink, rendering her unconscious within minutes.

“It will knock you out reliably at a certain dose,” Dyer testified. “GHB is very dangerous.”

Luster was arrested after police raided his home and found 17 videotapes and photographs of him having sex with apparently unconscious women.
