A local council in Sydney, Australia, has turned down an application to build a Muslim prayer hall after residents said they feared it could be a hotbed for terrorists.

Members of the Baulkham Hills Shire Council in north-western Sydney voted 10 to 2 to reject the application from a local Muslim on the grounds the hall was not in the community interest.
