The China Eastern Airlines MD-82, travelling from the south-western city of Kunming to Shanghai, landed in Nanchang, a city in the south-eastern province of Jiangxi.

The 13 people all adults, were coughing up blood or suffered punctured ear drums, said a doctor at the Jiangxi Provincial People’s Hospital in Nanchang.

She said some may have permanent hearing loss.
