More than 1,000 babies who died in Britain before their first birthdays have had their identities stolen by criminals seeking to create false identities, a new report has revealed.

In a scam depicted in the film The Day of the Jackal, applications for passports, driving licences and National Insurance numbers were successfully made using details of children who died many years ago.
