Terrorist mid air hijack fails

A 29-year-old Italian who claimed he was a member of Osama bin Laden’s al-Qaida terror network attempted to hijack an airliner in mid-flight today.

The Alitalia MD-80- jetliner with 67 passengers on board diverted to Lyon, the southern French city, where it landed safely. It had been on a flight from Bologna to Paris.
