Islamic rebels kill six in temple raid

Security forces exchanged fierce gunfire with Islamic militants today after the rebels stormed a Hindu temple in Indian Kashmir, killing six people and injuring at least 25, police said.

Gunfire and explosions could be heard as fighting raged late into Sunday night at Raghunath Temple in Kashmir’s winter capital, Jammu. Hundreds of Hindu pilgrims were in the temple when the militants attacked it and many were still trapped.
