Guarded welcome to Iraqi decision

Britain tonight gave a guarded welcome to the announcement by Iraq that it was prepared to accept the new United Nations mandate on weapons inspections.

British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw said the international community must remain “vigilant” to ensure that Iraq complied fully with its obligations under the UN Security Council passed last week.
