LAPD arrest serial rapes suspect

A suspect has been arrested in a series of rapes that have terrorised women in Southern California and Washington over six years, Los Angeles police said.

Mark Wayne Rathbun, 32, had not been charged.

He was linked through DNA evidence to 13 of the assaults since 1996, said Long Beach Police Chief Anthony Batts.

Bail was set at $2m (€1.98m). The Los Angeles County district attorney’s office will receive the case today or tomorrow before deciding whether to file charges, spokeswoman Sandi Gibbons said.
