US confident of UN approval on Iraq

After eight weeks of diplomatic wrangling, the United States is confident of winning UN approval today to finally force Saddam Hussein to disarm or face “serious consequences” that would almost certainly mean war.

The breakthrough came last night when France and the US reached a critical agreement to address French concerns that the resolution could automatically trigger an attack on Iraq.
