Powerful tremors shake Italy again
Several strong tremors shook the Italian town of San Giuliano Di Puglia today where 28 people, mostly schoolchildren, were killed by a powerful earthquake yesterday.
Grieving relatives fled in panic from the makeshift morgue where they had gone to identify the dead.
Clouds of dust rose from the town, but it was not immediately clear if any new damage had happened, or if structures partially damaged by yesterday’s quake had collapsed.
The strongest of the aftershocks had a preliminary reading of 5.3, almost as powerful as the 5.4 quake yesterday that destroyed the school.
Three people were later reported injured in the strongest aftershock, and many were being treated in the streets for shock.
Authorities ordered residents to stay outdoors.
