Children in eight German-speaking Swiss states will learn English as their second language – even though they already have four languages of their own.

Education officials announced today that English lessons would start in third grade, instead of seventh grade as at present. Teaching of French - Switzerland’s second most widely spoken language – will start in fifth grade.
