Maxine Carr leaves hospital

Maxine Carr has returned to the prison where she is being held on remand pending trial after being treated in hospital.

She is accused of perverting the course of justice following the disappearance of schoolgirls Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman.

Carr, 25, of Soham, Cambridgeshire, was taken from Holloway Prison, north London, to the nearby Whittington Hospital late on Saturday.

Neither the hospital, the Prison Service nor the police would say what was wrong with Carr.

But sources close to the investigation said she had been treated for an ongoing eating disorder and had been returned to Holloway late this morning.

There is also speculation that she had made a suicide attempt.

A spokesman at Whittington Hospital confirmed that she left hospital this afternoon.

Prison sources said she was being returned to nearby Holloway.
