Security guards overpower suicide bomber
Security guards outside the French Embassy in Tel Aviv arrested a would-be Palestinian suicide bomber today.
“The suicide bomber was overpowered and his bomb vest removed, and he has been put into a police van,” police spokesman Eti Greenberg told the Associated Press.
No injuries were reported.
At about the same time, an explosion was heard on nearby Herbert Samuel Street along the seafront. Police had no immediate information on that and said it was being investigated.
Police closed off the area around the French Embassy while the bomb squad investigated.
The incident occurred a day after a suicide bomber killed a 71-year-old woman and injured four other people near Tel Aviv.
An Israeli bus driver closed the door before the 30-year-old Palestinian could board his crowded bus, then helped a doctor pin the man to the ground while most of those nearby fled.
