Break through in breast cancer treatment

A new treatment for breast cancer has been developed to reduce the side effects associated with current methods of treatment.

Conventional radiotherapy, although effective, can cause some women’s breasts to shrink or become sore.

However, Dr Richard Sullivan, from Cancer Research UK, says the new method, which uses hi-tech computer imaging, prevents any such damage.

“Not only does it manage to kill the cancer cells but also spares the healthy tissue, which means there is very little radiation damage to the healthy tissues and subsequent cosmetic changes," he said.
