Nepal’s King Gyanendra today sacked Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and disbanded his council of ministers.

The announcement, made over state-run Radio Nepal, came a day after Deuba had asked the King – Nepal’s constitutional figurehead – to postpone November’s parliamentary elections by one year due to concerns about attacks by Maoist rebels.
