Michael Barrymore’s former drugs counsellor said today he had seen the entertainer swim in the pool in which party-goer Stuart Lubbock was found dead.
Mr Lubbock, 31, died on March 31 last year after a drug-fuelled party at the star’s luxury Essex home.
Barrymore subsequently told an inquest into Lubbock’s death that he could not jump in and try to save Lubbock because he could not swim.
Today David Benson, who met Barrymore at a Cocaine Anonymous meeting in Malibu, told GMTV he had seen Barrymore swim in his pool in Roydon while he was staying at the star’s home after Lubbock’s death.
He said: “He had a bathrobe on and took his bathrobe off and jumped in the shallow end and went up to the deep end...I saw him swimming in the pool.”
Last month police launched an investigation into claims that the star lied during the inquest into the death of the party guest after Barrymore’s estranged wife Cheryl also claimed he could swim.
