US soldier killed in bomb blast

An American soldier was among three people killed and 25 injured when a powerful bomb packed with nails exploded outside a restaurant in the troubled southern Philippines tonight.

The blast ripped off the roof of a small wooden house and damaged six shops in the village of Malagutay, 530 miles south of Manila.
