Islamic militants attacked a polling station today, the eve of elections in Kashmir, lobbing several grenades before hundreds of soldiers surrounded them and opened fire.

The attack took place on a government campus in the exclusive Gogjibagh district of Srinagar, the summer capital of Indian Kashmir state, that was to be used as a distribution and collection centre for elections officials and security forces.
