Bush will lie, says Iraq
Iraq’s state controlled media today accused President Bush of attempting to use the United Nations and said he would lie to the world body to further his campaign against Baghdad.
Bush, who was to address the UN General Assembly today, “wants to exploit the international body as a tool serving and giving legitimacy to his aggressive schemes against Iraq,” said al-Thawra, newspaper of the ruling Baath party.
The state-owned al-Jumhuriya said Bush’s speech would contain nothing but “cheap lies and rusty evidence aiming at marketing evil US plans on Iraq that will born dead.”
US officials said Bush intended to cite at least a dozen instances in which Iraqi President Saddam Hussein defied UN resolutions calling for inspections of suspected weapons sites and for disarmament, urge world leaders to insist Iraq comply – and gather support from reluctant allies and others for using force against Iraq.
