Mother kills daughter at fourth attempt

A woman accused of deliberately driving her car into a tree, killing her nine-year-old daughter, had tried three times to commit murder-suicide.

Before this week’s crash, Lisa Dieter had attempted to kill herself and her only child by starting gas explosions at her home in Parkville, Maryland, court documents said.

“I was trying to kill all three of us,” Dieter told police, referring to herself, her daughter and the family dog, which was also in the car.

Dieter, 35, was released from hospital, where she was treated for injuries suffered in the crash and ordered held without bail on a murder charge in a state mental hospital.

Police offered no clues why Dieter might have wanted to kill herself.
