Zimbabwe: white farmers arrested for refusing to leave land

Police in Zimbabwe have arrested more than eighty white farmers.

The government has ordered almost three thousand to leave their land but several hundred white commercial farmers are resisting the evictions.

President Mugabe wants to redistribute the farms to black Zimbabweans. Former Prime Minister of the country, Ian Smith, says the situation is getting out of control.

"We are in a situation, which is equal to insanity really, totally chaotic. I think we've got a Government that is in a state of panic. They don't know what they're doing or which way to go," he said.
