Hostage deadline 'a police first'

Detectives searching for Jessica Chapman and Holly Wells today took the highly unusual step of setting a deadline for any abductor to contact police on a telephone hotline.

One expert said the tactic of imposing the deadline - midnight tomorrow - could mean police had a particular suspect in mind and were trying to reach the individual personally.
