A lecturer was today charged by police investigating an alleged swindle involving the UK's Who Wants to be a Millionaire? quiz show.

Tecwen Whittock, 52, was charged with conspiracy and deception following a police inquiry into an edition of the show in which Major Charles Ingram, 38, won the £1m (€1.6m) jackpot.

Mr Whittock of Heol-y-Gors, Whitchurch, Cardiff, South Wales was bailed to appear at Bow Street magistrates court in central London on August 7.

Major Ingram is due to answer bail later.
