British police shoot gunman on motorway

Police marksmen have shot and injured a suspected gunman on the M6 motorway near Wigan today, Greater Manchester police said.

A section of motorway was closed following the incident on the M6 between junction 26 and 27 near Wigan, Greater Manchester.

The incident, which started in Merseyside at 5am, has caused major traffic disruption in the area.

A Greater Manchester police spokeswoman said: ‘‘The road is expected to remain closed for some time.’’
