Malaysian royal dies in pub brawl

A member of the royal family of Malaysia’s northern state of Kedah has been beaten to death in a brawl outside a pub.

Hazlin Hamid, 24, was stabbed, beaten and kicked by 10 people in Kuala Lumpur, following a misunderstanding, the national news agency, Bernama, reported.

Police were seeking one of the attackers who apparently was known to Hazlin, Bernama reported.

Officers investigating the case were not immediately available for further comment.

Nine of Malaysia’s 13 states are based on traditional sultanates and have their own royal families.

The sultans and rajas of those states take five-year turns at the Southeast Asian country’s rotating kingship.

Hazlin, a member of the Kedah family, was not in the line of direct succession.
