US airfield attacked near Kandahar

Two rocket propelled grenades were fired last night at an airfield used by US special forces in southern Afghanistan, the army said.

No injuries were reported from the base near Kandahar, said a US spokesman, Colonel Roger King.

He said it was not known who carried out the attack.

The grenades detonated within the grounds of the airfield, but he would not say how close the blasts were to US forces.

He said no equipment was damaged.
