Islamic party severs ties with Pakistan in shock u-turn

The most influential and hard-line Islamic party in Indian Kashmir delivered a political shock today when it announced it had severed ties with Muslim rebels and Pakistan.

The party Jama’at-e-Islami had long proposed merging Indian Kashmir into Pakistan and the reason for its U-turn was not immediately apparent.
