An inquest into the death of a father-of-three who was shot dead by police while carrying a table leg has delivered an open verdict.

St Pancras Coroner's Court heard policemen shot Mr Stanley, 46, after he turned and pointed an object in a tightly-wrapped blue plastic bag.

Police had earlier received reports of an Irishman leaving a pub in Hackney, east London, with a sawn-off shotgun in a blue plastic bag.

Mr Stanley's family have announced they will be seeking a judicial review of the decision at the High Court and will be making a formal complaint about the coroner, Dr Stephen Chan.
