A bomb has exploded outside the US consulate in Karachi, killing five people and injuring an unknown number of others.

A bomb has exploded outside the US consulate in Karachi, killing at least five people and injuring an unknown number of others.

The blast occurred around 11.15 am (local time). Nationalities of the casualties are not immediately known.

Police said the bomb was concealed in a car. The blast shattered windows in the consulate and the nearby Marriott hotel.

Rescue teams rushed to the scene and ambulances shuttled the injured to nearby hospitals.
