Heavily armed Land Rovers used by the Royal Marines in their war on terror in Afghanistan are to be the stars of Europe’s biggest military vehicle show today.

The adaptable four-wheel stalwarts were among 300 war machines on display at Defence Vehicles Dynamics 2002 at Long Valley near Aldershot.

The event was organised by the Ministry of Defence to show off the Armed Forces’ latest vehicles.

More than 60 companies, from the UK and worldwide, were taking part in the event and showcasing some vehicles that have never been seen before in Britain.

Among the displays were the new Viking All Terrain Vehicle, which is due to the lead the parade to mark the Queen’s Golden Jubilee, Singapore Technologies’ Light Strike Vehicle, the Santana Utility Vehicle and the new armour-plated Range Rover from Land Rover.

Defence procurement minister Lord Bach was attending the event.
