Shoe bomb suspect 'justified action to his mother'

The Briton suspected of trying to blow up a transatlantic flight with a bomb in his shoe told his mother he had a duty as a Muslim to ‘‘help remove repressive American forces’’, according to court documents released in Boston.

The documents also said Richard Reid ‘‘was not unassisted in his efforts to destroy Flight 63’’.
