Jesse Jackson in hospital

The Rev Jesse Jackson was expected to be released from hospital tonight after he was admitted for tests for muscle pain.

Jackson, who heads the Rainbow/PUSH Coalition, was admitted to the University of Chicago Hospitals on Saturday.

After several tests, doctors decided to keep him overnight for observation, said hospital spokesman John Easton.

Jackson had been involved in a car accident several weeks ago.

The tests found no problems, and doctors hoped to release Jackson later tonight, Easton said.

‘‘So far, everything has been coming back negative,’’ Easton said. ‘‘We’ve been able to rule out other problems and it’s looking more and more like what everyone thought it was, a muscle pain as a result of his accident.’’

Jackson had complained of muscle pain, adding that he had been in an auto accident several weeks before, said Easton.
