Two killed in May Day grenade blast in the Philippines

Two people have died and at least 50 others are injured after a grenade attack during Labour Day celebrations in the southern Philippines today.

The attack took place at a trade fair in Notre Dame village, a part of the city of Catabatu.

A local military commander said it appeared someone threw the grenade and then ran away.

The attack comes just 10 days after a series of bombings in the southern city of General Santos which killed 15 people.

Police said earlier that they had foiled attempted attacks in the cities of Davao and Tarlac after pre-dawn clashes with men carrying grenades and bombs.
