Pope addresses meeting on sex abuse

Leaders from America’s scandal-scarred Roman Catholic Church will hear out Pope John Paul II and present their own proposals today during an unprecedented discussion on public anger over priestly sexual abuse.

One report had an unnamed cardinal in attendance joining those who think embattled Cardinal Bernard Law of Boston, Massachusetts, must step down. But Cardinal Theodore McCarrick, of Washington, said Law should stay and insisted that the agenda boiled down to one thing.
