British Nuclear Fuels will tomorrow mount a major defence of safety standards at the Sellafield nuclear reprocessing plant.

BNFL’s head of safety John Clarke will use a public hearing at the European Parliament in Brussels to reject claims that radioactive output from the plant is a health hazard and that the site should be shut down.
