Arafat expresses 'deep condemnation' of terrorism

Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat today expressed his ‘‘deep condemnation’’ of terrorism in a statement apparently intended to satisfy US demands for a denunciation of terror attacks.

The statement came after US Secretary of State Colin Powell, who is visiting Israel, said he would not meet Arafat until the Palestinian leader condemned terrorism.
