Israeli tanks enter Nablus

Tonight, Israeli tanks entered the West Bank city of Nablus, Palestinian witnesses said.

The thundering sound of tank shells could be heard in Nablus as Israeli tanks began rolling into the city, the West Bank’s largest, launching a new invasion in the six-day offensive to wipe out militant networks.

About 300 to 400 tanks were in position from all sides of the city, and some fired at barricades set up by gunmen.

Gunmen and Palestinian police were moving in the streets in groups throughout the city.

The gunmen closed the main roads with sandbags and rubbish cans filled with sand, and planted home-made mines.
