Al-Qaida 'still capable of attacks'

The al-Qaida network of Osama bin Laden remains capable of carrying out terrorist acts, a US military spokesman warned today.

Navy Commander Frank Merriman, a US Central Command spokesman, said the US-led military campaign in Afghanistan has scored significant victories against al Qaida - but the global terrorist organisation is far from being wiped out.
