Friends saddened as Thatcher retires

Close political friends of Baroness Thatcher are expressing their sadness that she has been forced to retire from public life.

Doctors have ordered the former Tory Prime Minister to stop making speeches because she has had a number of small strokes.

Her former press secretary Bernard Ingham says the ‘iron will’ she put into her public life has finally taken its toll.
