Jerusalem suicide bombing injures seven

A suicide bomb has injured at least seven people in the centre of Jerusalem today.

Witnesses said the attack was carried out near a cafe and a food stand.

‘‘Suddenly, I heard a loud explosion, I can still hear a ringing in the ears,’’ one said.

The blast went off around 4.25 pm (2.25pm Irish Time) along King George Street in the main shopping area.

‘‘I can see people lying on the ground here but I don’t know their condition,’’ said an Israeli army radio reporter.

The blast came a day after a Palestinian suicide bomber blew up a crowded commuter bus in northern Israel, killing himself and seven other passengers.

The back-to-back explosions raised new questions about US truce efforts.

Negotiators were to meet later today for a third round of truce talks, and it was not immediately clear whether the session would take place.
