A Californian faces the death penalty after being accused of murdering five of his children through asphyxiation by lighting a charcoal barbecue inside the family home.

Adair Garcia, 30, used the barbecue to fill the house in Pico Rivera, 10 miles southeast of Los Angeles, with carbon monoxide while the children slept.
