Arafat asks US to halt Israeli 'slaughter'
Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat has spoken by phone with US Secretary of State Colin Powell to ask the US to intervene in the Middle East conflict.
Mr Arafat asked the US to stop what he called the Israeli "slaughter" in the territories, Israel Radio reported.
Arafat adviser Nabil Abu Rudeineh said the two also discussed the return of special US Middle East envoy Anthony Zinni, who is scheduled to arrive in the region next week.
